Pilates Stories

I love just spreading the word of Pilates to people who need it and haven't done it. In teh past few weeks I have seen clients with hip replacements, reconstructed knees, osteoporosis, ruptured lumbar discs. I have seen people with limited use of an arm, a knee that won't bend, and scoliosis. Pilates has helped all of them! They have all felt better and left with studio referrals for home. Good biomechanically sound exercise with a focus on spinal stabilization and core strength will help anyone. I have yet to see somebody who didn't feel better and stronger after Pilates.

Good News!

It has been an exciting few weeks for me and I am thrilled to be able to share some good news with all of you.

1. TCI Free Press
Jonathon Sayao of our very own TCI Free Press is writing a feature story on me that should be appearing in this coming week's paper. Also in this week's edition will be my first weekly "Health and Fitness Q & A" column. Keep an eye out!

2. S3 Magazine
Thanks to Taylor Drotman of S3 magazine for her continued support. The next issue contains an expanded review of my Pilates and Reiki services, so please read it as soon as it's out.

3. Reiki
If you have never experienced reiki I highly recommend it as a very gentle and non-invasive healing method. All of my reiki clients have experienced profound relaxation and pain relief (especially headaches). Available as a full hour or you can add 30 minutes to the end of your Pilates lesson.

4. Pilates MP3 Audio Downloads
After making CDs for several clients so they could do their Pilates workouts at home and while traveling I decided to sell 30 minute Pilates classes on line as downloadable MP3s. These files can be played on your computer, your iPod or other MP3 player, or burned onto a CD to take anywhere. Each download is $39.97.

Thanks so much and have great day!

Pilates Cross Training for Climbers

Eric Horst blogs about Mountain Climbing, and I myself have worked with a few climbers and have one in particular who I have coached via email. This climber had fallen off a mountain and really injured his pelvis and lumbar spine. After just 2 weeks of doing my Pilates Fundamentals for Lower Back Pain he was climbing again without pain!

Today I was alerted to his post Pilates Cross Training for Climbers which includes a good explanation of why climbers should be doing Pilates along with a few sample exercises.

"The higher the grade and the more you climb, the greater the stress load on your body and the more at risk you become for an overuse injury. Preventing overuse injuries means maintaining uniform muscle balance in the forearms, uppers arms, and shoulders. Muscle imbalances are responsible for many common climber injuries. Overly developed back muscles and underdeveloped rotator cuff muscles often lead to shoulder injury. Meanwhile overdeveloped flexors of the forearms and wrist paired with underdeveloped extensor muscles can lead to elbow injuries."

If you climb, you should be doing Pilates!

Pilates Cures A Pain In the Neck

A great article on Pilates by Lisa Snider in the California based VC Reporter--

Grace to spare
She turned to Pilates of sheer desperation — and found a life-long fitness routine in the process

After her doctor (cortisone injections), chiropractor, massage therapist, and yoga teacher could not get rid of horrible non-stop neck and shoulder pain, Snider decided to try Pilates. She started, as many do, in a beginning mat class where she spent a year and then added in Reformer (equipment) classes.

Says Snider, "I
’ve been at this now for nearly two years and I’ve not only eliminated my pain, but I’m more toned and I’ve discovered a whole new life-long fitness regimen."

I couldn't have said it better myself!

Abundance Abounds!

So the incumbent Premier Michael Misick and his progressive PNP party won the election in an unprecedented landslide of 13 seats to 2. Congratulations!

If you are reading this blog and have a related blog, please email me or leave a comment and let's exchange links and bring more traffic to all of us.

Today I am grateful for abundance. I am so appreciative of everything that I have--a great husband, pets, lots of good friends all over the world, a great little pink house to live in on a beautiful small island in the Caribbean (some say this is one of the last above water islands of Atlantis; TCI is also the only country that is located fully inside of the Bermuda Triangle), portable job skills, great clients, lovely pets. In general, life is damn good!

Choosing to focus only on abundance and not on lack has made a huge difference in my quality of life. Life IS good; all really IS well; and I have the choice to bask in that knowledge and reap the rewards or to focus on what I don't have and how sucky that feels. I choose what feels good!

I am posting some new MP3 downloads at my lulu.com store, so check it out in the next few days.
